Il gioco d’azzardo patologico (GAP) è classificato nel DSM-IV-TR (American Psychiatric Association 2000) come un disturbo del controllo degli impulsi altrimenti non classificato. Tuttavia, vi è evidenza che vi siano anche caratteristiche condivise con il disturbo ossessivo-compulsivo, l’abuso di sostanze e i disturbi dell’umore.
