Il gioco d’azzardo patologico

Riassunto

I sondaggi rivelano, ripetutamente, come almeno il 40% degli individui che hanno avuto un quadro di gioco d’azzardo patologico (GAP) nella loro vita, non soddisfino i criteri per una diagnosi di patologia nell’anno precedente all’intervista (Hodgins et al. 1999). Questi risultati suggeriscono che una parte significativa dei giocatori patologici sono riabilitati o in fase di riabilitazione. Le strade per la riabilitazione possono essere molteplici e includono trattamenti formali centrati in maniera specifica sulla cessazione del gioco, quali programmi residenziali, trattamenti ambulatoriali di gruppo, e counseling individuale. In aggiunta, o alternativamente, gli individui possono fruire di trattamenti per questioni che riguardano altre malattie psichiatriche in cui i comportamenti associati al gioco d’azzardo sono affrontati in maniera indiretta. Le associazioni dei Giocatori Anonimi, che traggono vantaggio dal supporto tra pari, sono diventate ampiamente disponibili sul territorio. Il percorso piú frequente puó essere quello di non ricevere trattamento, ovvero l’auto-riabilitazione (Hodgins et al. 1999).
