In età pediatrica la determinazione dello stato nutrizionale costituisce un momento fondamentale nella valutazione della crescita del bambino e rappresenta una parte importante dell’esame clinico del bambino con malattia acuta e cronica [1]. Gli strumenti che consentono di effettuare una prima valutazione dello stato nutrizionale sono rappresentati dal’anamnesi, con particolare attenzione alle abitudini alimentari, dall’esame obiettivo e dalla determinazione di peso, altezza e indice di massa corporea (body mass index, BMI). Una valutazione più accurata dello stato nutrizionale può essere poi svolta attraverso lo studio della composizione corporea e la determinazione di alcuni parametri di laboratorio.
