I sistemi esperti (SE) si caratterizzano per la capacità di eseguire compiti che di solito vengono eseguiti da una persona esperta in un particolare dominio (inteso come un ambito della conoscenza) ben delimitato e ristretto. L’esperto è colui che ha una notevole conoscenza ed esperienza in un dominio ed è in grado, in tale ambito, di dare risposte corrette.
