The Description of the Case (POWERGRID)

Abstract

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (POWERGRID) is the Company which has been studied from the Knowledge Management point of view. This Company has come into existence on 23 October 1989 under the Companies Act 1956 with the transfer of transmission systems of eight companies along with the posted manpower from the power-generating companies under the auspices of Government of India. It is the only Company in the world which has got 1200 kV, UHVAC transmission system under its operation. The Company has five business verticals, namely operation and maintenance of transmission systems, grid management, telecom, project management and consultancy. POWERGRID has emerged as a global leader in power transmission and earned reputation of being one of the best managed transmission utilities of the world. Besides being the Central Transmission Utility of India, the Company has been increasing its global footprint very fast. POWERGRID has been listed in BSE and NSE after its initial public offer in 2007 and ‘Follow on Offers’ in 2010 and 2013. Presently, Govt. of India’s holding is 57.9 and 42.1 % is that of the Public in this Company.
