Abstract

The breast is composed of 15–20 lobes, each encased in between the two layers of the deep fascia. The anterior mammary fascia and the posterior mammary fascia are fascial folds within which the breast lies. The support and the mobility of the breast are related to the fascial attachments to the skin and the chest wall. The lateral aspect of the breast is more mobile than the medial part of the breast. There is an extension of normal breast tissue into the axilla called the axillary tail of Spence.
