Abstract
The DNA composition and information is unique for each species, not affected by age, physiological, and environmental factors. DNA-based analytical techniques are in practice as a tool to identify herbals even at modified forms, from adulterants, ecotypes, and substitutes. DNA barcodes and genetic markers have a potential role to develop fingerprints even in the presence of PCR inhibitors. The technology is also helpful in identification, suitable selection for commercial cultivation, as well as disease-resistant medicinal plants.
