Abstract
Haptic aids for persons with visual impairment are introduced. First, the devices are categorized by their purposes; reading a braille, viewing a 2D information, and enabling input and output. Then they are classified from the viewpoint of the necessity of users’ active motion, followed by the discussion of benefits and drawbacks of active and passive devices. The chapter concludes with current and future development of haptic aids for the visually impaired.
