Abstract

The Double Chooz experiment was developed with the main purpose to improve the knowledge about the, by that time, last unknown neutrino oscillation mixing angle, \(\theta _{13}\), measuring the \(\bar{\nu }_e\) survival probability at a \(\sim \)1 km distance. The disappearance of \(\bar{\nu }_e\) indicates a non-zero \(\theta _{13}\). An analysis of the neutrino reactor data, based on the baseline dependence, gives the information about the squared effective mass difference \(\varDelta \tilde{m}_{31}^2\). In this chapter, the methods used to analyse the data in order to measure the value of both reactor neutrino oscillation parameters, \(\theta _{13}\) and \(\varDelta \tilde{m}^2_{31}\), are described.

Custom had made the unnatural appear natural, and vice versa.

Notes

  1. 1.

During the preparation of this book, the Daya Bay collaboration published a measurement of \(\varDelta \tilde{m}^2_{31}\) based on spectrum analysis [16], although the analysis details are not presented.
