Abstract
This chapter shows how we execute the empirical part of our study. We have decided to use case studies to explore and explain the new phenomenon service offshoring. They have been selected from German MNCs and their Eastern European service offshoring subsidiaries to exclude influences of different home countries on coordination and to further the knowledge on service offshoring to Eastern Europe. Our functional focus is on subsidiaries that carry out information technology services. During site visits, we interviewed 24 managers in headquarters, service offshoring subsidiaries, and other international subsidiaries. The interviews were transcribed and then subjected to content analysis. Based on the assignment of codes to the transcripts, we evaluated the appropriateness of the propositions from our typology. In accordance with the literature on qualitative research, we took several measures to ensure the quality of our findings.
