Zusammenfassung

Das Auffinden von Nahrungsquellen erfolgt vor allem aufgrund chemischer Reize, die mit den Haarsinnesorganen auf den Antennen wahrgenommen werden (s. 11.3). Bei der Nahorientierung spielen außerdem Sinnesorgane an den Tarsen und auf den Mundwerkzeugen, insbesondere den Palpen, eine Rolle. Die Wahrnehmungsfähigkeit kann im Alter auch bei den Insekten abnehmen. So kann bei der Schmeißfliege Phormia regina die Wahrnehmung von Zuckern bis zu 50% verringert sein. Parallel dazu können bis zu 50% der Sinneshaare am Labeilum nicht mehr funktionsfähig sein. Die Wahrnehmung von Fraßlockstoffen fördert und verlängert die Nahrungsaufnahme, während diese beim Vorhandensein von Fraßabwehrstoffen (Fraßhemmstoffe) unterbrochen oder reduziert werden kann. Sinnesorgane zur Überprüfung der aufgenommenen Nahrung sind besonders im Cibarium vorhanden.
