Abstract

We discuss the different aspects of electromagnetic interactions in nuclei, in connection with the parametrization of the Nucleon-Nucleon potential in terms of mesonic degrees of freedom. Meson-Exchange Currents are derived in perturbation theory, and we shall first detail their relation with our present description of nuclear and nucleon structure. From a quantitative point of view, they can be related to the Nucleon-Nucleon potential by the conservation of the current, and we shall show how this relation can be used to determine precisely all the parameters of the leading contributions (electromagnetic and hadronic form factors). The relationship between Meson-Exchange Currents and relativistic corrections are then discussed in the light of the recent experimental results on two- and three-body form factors.
