Ist die Kieferhöhle physiologischerweise keimfrei?

  • Conference paper

Summary

In animal experiments and in clinical studies normal maxillary sinuses were examined for their bacterial flora. Maxillary swabs of 21 cattle, 23 pigs and 26 humans were evaluated. Swabs were found to be sterile in 85% of the cattle and in only 35% of the pigs. This discrepancy was attributed to differences in the method used. In humans there was no evidence of bacterial growth in 85% of the normal maxillary sinuses when using the subtraction technique (primary—repeat swab).
