Abstract
Without doubt, recent advances in IT-related communicative technologies have significant potential to transform aspects of the education industry. With specific regard to language learning, this chapter looks at the opportunities stakeholders have access to when these technologies are utilized. But what is technology? By firstly reappraising the concept of technology, and then redefining its purview, it quickly becomes clear that educators, researchers and institutions need to consider other issues if IT-related artifacts are to be used to their full potential in this key service industry.
