Abstract
In his introductory speech to the conference on “European Identity through Space” held at ESPI on 12–13 November 2009, ESA Director General Jean-Jacques Dordain underlined that “the theme of this conference is unusual in space fora, but that alsomeans it is an interesting theme.” This sentence summarises the challenges encountered in the process of conceiving the present book, but also the potential usefulness of such an endeavour.
