Abstract
We shall consider now algebras S/R that are essentially of finite type where R is an arbitrary noetherian ring. S/R is called smooth at the point k ∈ Spec(S), if the following conditions are satisfied:

a)
Sf/Ry is flat (y:=p ∩).

b)
Sf/ySf is geometrically regular over k (y).
