Abstract
Many parts of the EN 9100 use complex words that are difficult to understand when first read (see TableĀ 3.1). These words do not always make it easy for laypersons to develop an appropriate understanding of the requirements of the standard. In this chapter some important terms are translated to the language of the operational everyday life. Additionally, the meaning of other terms that are important for the understanding of standards are explained. These include counterfeit parts, critical items, special requirements and key characteristics.
