Zusammenfassung
Aufgrund zunehmender Migrationsströme wird weibliche Genitalverstümmelung zunehmend Thema der Gesundheitsversorgung auch entwickelter westlicher Länder. Da diese religiöse Praktik bisher trotz weltweiter Ächtung (WHO 1995) nicht beseitigt werden konnte, stellen Wiederherstellungsoperationen ein sinnvolles Hilfsangebot für die betroffenen Frauen im Sinne einer Interimslösung dar. Bisher hat jedoch nur ein Bruchteil der Betroffenen in den entwickelten westlichen Ländern Zugang zu diesen rekonstruktiven Eingriffen. Im Folgenden werden zunächst die biopsychosozialen Folgen weiblicher Genitalverstümmelung dargestellt und im Anschluss der aktuelle Forschungsstand zum psychosozialen Outcome von Wiederherstellungsoperationen referiert.
