Zusammenfassung
Das Hämorrhoidalleiden ist eine der häufigsten Erkrankungen in den Industrienationen. Annähernd 70 % aller Erwachsenen sind im Laufe ihres Lebens irgendwann einmal betroffen. Die Inzidenz von Patienten, welche sich deshalb in ärztliche Behandlung ergeben, wird mit 4 %, die jährliche Inzidenz einer Hämorrhoidektomie mit 40–50 pro 100.000 Erwachsene angegeben. Auf Deutschland bezogen ist jährlich mit ca. 3,5 Millionen Behandlungsfällen und ca. 40.000–50.000 Hämorrhoidenoperationen zu rechnen. Der Häufigkeitsgipfel liegt zwischen dem 45. und 65. Lebensjahr; in manchen Studien tritt die Erkrankung bei Frauen ebenso oft auf wie bei Männern, in anderen Studien sind Männer häufiger betroffen. Untersuchungen bei anal Gesunden zeigten eine Prävalenz von 40–60 %, davon zu 45 % mit Beschwerden. Da in den meisten Studien jedoch ganz unterschiedliche Kollektive untersucht wurden, findet man eine sehr große Streuung bei den Ergebnissen zwischen 25 % und 75 %. Mit zunehmendem Körpergewicht wurde eine steigende Prävalenz gesehen. Auch dazu gibt es Untersuchungen, die dies nicht bestätigen konnten.
