Zusammenfassung
Das Anorektum bildet zusammen mit dem Beckenboden das sog. anorektale Kontinenzorgan. Einerseits gewährleistet es den dauerhaften luft- und wasserdichten Verschluss des unteren Magen-Darm-Traktes, andererseits ermöglicht es das portionierte, willkürlich kontrollierbare Absetzen von Stuhl und Winden. Das Anorektum bildet das hintere Beckenkompartiment und grenzt nach vorne an das Urogenitalsystem. Dieses Kapitel vermittelt die funktionelle Anatomie der verschiedenen Komponenten des Anorektums, deren Kenntnis unabdingbare Voraussetzung für die Diagnostik und – insbesondere die chirurgische – Behandlung proktologischer Erkrankungen ist.
