Abstract
The Adwen AD5-116 is the first wind turbine specifically designed for use out at sea and as an innovative further development, construction and test of the M5000 offshore wind turbine it was one of the first RAVE projects. Some of the project results are: 1) Greater pre-bending of the load-reduced rotor blade ensures greater aeroelastic stability. 2) The converter’s cooling system is, in contrast to other turbines, located higher up in the tower. Ninety per cent of the heat loss is passed to the outside in order to prevent excessive heat build-up in the tower. 3) The fresh air supply to the cooling system in the tower has also been blocked to prevent salt deposits and thus potential corrosion nuclei.
