Abstract

The work presented here examines the performance and effectiveness of fan noise control in a duct by using light panels with backing cavity. The method aims to suppress the low-frequency noise by destructive interference between the acoustic field in the duct and sound radiation from the panel. A three-dimensional numerical model is established to investigate the details of flow-structure interaction and its influence on the fan noise suppression. The aerodynamic characteristics near the fan blades and the vibration of the flexible structure also plays an important role in the noise suppression. The findings of this study will provide an alternative method of fan noise abatement focusing on the source.
