Zusammenfassung
Die Frage, ob und wie ein alter Patient mit einem malignen Tumor operiert werden soll, kann nicht nur anhand der Aktenlage geklärt werden. Umfassende Daten zur körperlichen und geistigen Leistungsfähigkeit des alten Patienten sind zwar wichtig und hilfreich, sie reichen aber bei Weitem nicht aus, um sich von der Gesamtsituation und den Wünschen des einzelnen Patienten ein genaues Bild zu machen. Gerade beim alten Patienten ist ein ausführliches Gespräch zwischen einem erfahrenen Chirurgen und dem Patienten eine conditio sine qua non hinsichtlich der Entscheidung für oder gegen eine Operation.
