Zusammenfassung
Die etwa zwischen dem 40. und 60. Grad nördlicher Breite endemische Multisystemerkrankung Lyme-Borreliose verursacht Erkrankungen vor allem an Haut, Nervensystemen und Gelenken. Sie kann durch wenigstens 5 verschiedene Spezies aus dem Borrelia-burgdorferi-sensu-lato-Komplex verursacht werden: B. burgdorferi sensu stricto, B. afzelii, B. garinii, B. bavariensis und B. spielmanii. Davon kommt in Amerika nur B. burgdorferi s. s. vor, in Europa alle Arten, in Asien alle außer B. burgdorferi s. s. Während zu Erkrankungen aus dem asiatischen Raum kaum belastbare Daten vorliegen, sind die Erkrankungsformen in Europa und Amerika insgesamt sehr ähnlich, wobei die mit B. afzelii assoziierten Manifestationen Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans und das Borrelien-Lymphozytom in den USA nur importiert vorkommen. Insgesamt ist zu betonen, dass die Hautmanifestationen bei entsprechender ärztlicher Expertise gut zu diagnostizieren und erfolgreich zu therapieren sind, allerdings im Einzelfall eine komplexe Herausforderung darstellen können.
