Abstract

Building on basic balloon angioplasty, the past 10 years have seen remarkable progress in the field of instrumental techniques. Most branches of medicine, and in particular that of cardiovascular disease, have been affected by these new techniques. These new therapeutic concepts can be grouped together under the heading “Interventional Cardiology and Angiology”. The most important established and a variety of still experimental techniques are summarized in Table 1.
