Abstract
The guava (Psidium guajava L., family Myrtaceae) originated in tropical America, where it is found both cultivated and growing wild. It is reported to have been growing in the West Indies since 1526, and was introduced by the Spaniards to the Philippines and by the Portuguese to India by the early 17th century. It quickly spread to most of the tropical and subtropical world and became naturalized in several countries (Menzel 1985). In Greece, the plant is cultivated to a limited extent.
