Zusammenfassung

Erkrankungen des Magen-Darm-Kanals — wie die Ulkuskrankheit, nichtulzeröse Dyspepsien oder entzündliche Darmerkrankungen — führen zwar nicht die Mortalitätsstatistiken an; sie stehen aber in allen Industrienationen an vorderer Position als Ursachen für Arbeitsunfähigkeit, Krankenhauseinweisung und Invalidität. Die große Zahl zur Verfügung stehender Medikamente weist darauf hin, dass in diesem Bereich das therapeutische Handeln häufig durch Empirie beeinflusst ist. Bei kritischer Prüfung schrumpft das Arsenal valider Arzneimittel beträchtlich. Insbesondere auf dem Gebiet der gastrointestinalen Pharmakotherapie sind kontrollierte klinische Studien die wesentliche Grundlage für die Erstellung von Therapieschemata.
