Zusammenfassung
Unter den nosokomiellen Infektionen im Krankenhaus steht die mikrobielle Sepsis an 5. Stelle; im Bereich der Intensivmedizin ist die Sepsis in vielen Kliniken heute die zweit- oder dritthäufigste nosokomiale Infektion [9]. Eine mikrobielle Sepsis ist bei Patienten mit Multiorganversagen in mindestens der Hälfte der Fälle anzunehmen. Da die Hauptzahl der mikrobiellen Sepsisfälle durch Bakterien ausgelöst ist und Pilzinfektionen sowie virale und andere Infektionen demgegenüber in den Hintergrund treten, behandelt dieses Kapitel v. a. die Antibiotikatherapie der bakteriellen Sepsis.
