Abstract

Long-delayed ionization is a statistical phenomena governed by the density of states. Like other statistical processes, its rate is governed by the magnitude of Planck’s constant. We also discuss newer work that identifies more prompt ionization channels, channels that are equally not direct. The existence of several time scales for ionization is discussed both quantum mechanically and statistically. Experimental results for fullerenes are presented.
