Abstract
In this chapter, four basic radiological changes which can be observed by CT scanning in diseased skeletal muscle will be described. They are (1) muscular atrophy, (2) muscular hypertrophy, (3) muscular hypotrophy and (4) muscular fibrosis. It will be shown that these basic morphological changes can be observed either alone or in combination with each other at various stages of different disease processes without being specific for any of them. For example, muscular atrophy can be seen in combination with hypertrophy of synergistic muscles. It can produce pseudohypertrophy or lead to muscular hypotrophy. Fibrosis can be observed as a separate entity but can also occur together with muscular atrophy.
