Überblick

Karbonatschmelzenbrennstoffzellen sind in den 60er Jahren von Ketelaar und Broers zum ersten Mal erprobt worden. Ihre Entwicklung wurde aber erst in den späten 70er/frühen 80er Jahren zunächst in den USA, seit rund acht Jahren auch in Japan wieder aufgenommen Der Elektrolyt ist eine Mischschmelze aus Li2CO3 und K2CO3 bzw. Li2CO3 und Na2CO3. Die Arbeitstemperatur wird mit 620 bis 660°C angegeben.
