Health Literacy von Kindern und Jugendlichen: entwicklungsbezogene Überlegungen

Zusammenfassung

Die Berücksichtigung der in Kindheit und Jugend stattfindenden Entwicklungsprozesse kann helfen, die Bedeutung, Relevanz und Ausbildung von Health Literacy in diesen Lebensphasen besser zu verstehen. Relevante Fragestellungen sind a) wie, wann und in welchem Umfang bilden sich die individuellen Health Literacy-Komponenten und -Kompetenzen in der Kindheit und Jugend aus, b) welche Bedingungen für die Entwicklung von Health Literacy sind in welcher Lebensphase Voraussetzung und was fördert bzw. hemmt diese Entwicklung und c) wie beeinflussen die stattfindenden kognitiven und sozialen Entwicklungsprozesse und -veränderungen die Health Literacy eines Kindes oder Jugendlichen? Um die Besonderheiten der frühen Lebensphase sowie die Bedeutung der stattfindenden Entwicklungsprozesse für die Konzeptualisierung von Health Literacy bei Kindern und Jugendlichen herauszustellen, wird ein Überblick über die in der Fachliteratur diskutierten entwicklungsbezogenen Zugängen und Überlegungen gegeben. Hierfür werden psychologische und soziologische entwicklungsbezogene Ansätze beschrieben und das Health Literacy-6D-Modell vorgestellt, welches eine explorierende Perspektive auf Health Literacy im Kindes- und Jugendalter durch die Herausstellung zielgruppenspezifischer Besonderheiten entlang von 6 Dimensionen vornimmt.

Der vorliegende Beitrag basiert auf einem Aufsatz der Autorinnen, der 2019 im von Okan et al. herausgegebenen und von Policy Press verlegten „International Handbook of Health Literacy“ veröffentlicht worden ist (Bröder und Carvalho 2019). Bei der aktuellen Fassung auf Deutsch handelt es sich um eine aktualisierte und erweiterte Fassung des ursprünglichen Beitrags. Übersetzung aus dem Englischen: Janine Bröder.
