Zusammenfassung
Im Jahr 2006 hielt ich gemeinsam mit einer Kollegin einen Vortrag zur Theorie der Schweigespirale. In der Diskussion meinte eine Kollegin, sie verstehe überhaupt nicht, wie man heute noch zur Schweigespirale forschen könne.

Colemans Badewanne ist natürlich nicht das einzige, aber ein besonders prominentes Modell der Zusammenhänge von gesellschaftlicher Makro- und Mikro-Ebene. Zu nennen wäre hier auch sicherlich noch Essers (1999) Modell der soziologischen Erklärung, das überdies den Vorteil hat, die Meso-Ebene einzubeziehen. Wir beziehen uns aber auf Colemans Darstellung, weil diese einfacher ist und für unsere Zwecke zunächst hinreicht.

Die Erhebung wurde Ende Dezember durchgeführt. Gefunden wurden 211 Titel, von denen aber nur 172 als Forschungsarbeiten eingestuft werden konnten. Das andere waren z. B. Rezensionen oder Arbeiten zur Person Noelle-Neumann.

Es ist natürlich ein wenig fragwürdig, Regionen als Makro-Ebene zu interpretieren. Aber letztlich geht es bei unserer Problemstellung um Zusammenhänge zwischen einer übergeordneten und einer untergeordneten Ebene (vgl. Quandt und Scheufele 2011, S. 12).

Allerdings arbeiten die Autoren mit einfachen hierarchischen Regressionen und nicht mit Mehrebenenanalysen, wie dies eigentlich angezeigt wäre.
