Comparative Analysis

Abstract

This comparative analysis chapter builds the bridge to the theoretical Chapter 2 in which I presented the most relevant regime classifications. For each of the regime models, I theoretically derived one hypothesis and operationalized it in the methodology Chapter 3. This book tackles the following main research question: “To what extent do welfare regime classifications help us understand higher education funding by foundations vis-à-vis the state in Germany and the United States?” I retrieved and collected a variety of both quantitative and qualitative data, as illustrated in Chapter 3, to address data and research shortages, but also to cover several different angles of the research question.
