Abstract
In the following four chapters, I will look at the results from my interviews with LITs and use their responses (as well as some autobiographical elements) to demonstrate how the transformative learning process plays out in the course of long-term independent travel. Drawing on the structure established in chapter 4, this chapter is also first divided into three main sections corresponding to the three phases of long-term travel. Thus, the chapter begins with an examination of the reasons why LITs decide to engage in this specific type of travel in the first place and which specific experiences “get them out the door”.
