Die Konferenz der Vereinten Nationen in Rio de Janeiro 1992 war ein Meilenstein der globalen Umweltpolitik. Sie brachte das Konzept des sustainable development in die Debatte und führte zu grundlegenden internationalen Vereinbarungen über Klima, Biodiversität, Desertifikation und POPs (persistent organic pollutants).
