Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networks are networks of wirelessly communicating nodes which have the ability to measure physical variables. The individual nodes are usually embedded devices consisting of a microcontroller, memory, sensors, a wireless network interface, a programming interface and batteries. The development in the field of Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) has led to miniaturisation of the nodes down to the size of less than 1 cm3 [Har+07].
