Abstract
This chapter provides a detailed description of the theoretical foundations of magnetic field generation necessary for FFL imaging in MPI. The magnetic fields as well as the electromagnetic coils generating the same are discussed and analyzed. Taking into account the conditions on the magnetic fields mentioned in the previous chapter, i.e. generation, rotation, and translation of the FFL field, the scanner setup first introduced in [KEB+10] and shown in Fig. 4.1 will be motivated from a purely mathematical point of view. This setup was also chosen for the implementation of the first FFL field demonstrator, which will be introduced in chapter 5.
