Zusammenfassung

Lange Zeit war Syrien für viele Menschen außerhalb der arabischen Welt kaum präsent. Das internationale Interesse war gering und auch Syrien selbst hatte sich vom Rest der Welt ziemlich abgeschottet. Wahrgenommen wurde der Staat vor allem dann, wenn es um den Nahostkonflikt im Allgemeinen ging.
