Die moderne perioperative Antibiotikaprophylaxe unterscheidet sich von der Antibiotikaprophylaxe früherer Jahre in 3 wesentlichen Punkten:

sie beginnt vor dem operativen Eingriff,

sie besteht nur aus wenigen Dosen: 3, 2 oder nur 1,
-
sie wird nur selektiv angewandt (Abb. 1).
