Atlantic Ocean coast of Virginia, facing a gently sloping continental shelf (Fig. 4-1). Length: 100 km. Width: 3 to 12 km. Thickness: 30 meters maximum on Atlantic Ocean and thinning to 0 meter against the Pleistocene mainland.
