Spilites and Spilitic Rocks

Part of the book series: International Union of Geological Sciences ((2817,volume 4))

Abstract

Examination of the mineralogical and chemical effects, as a function of separate environmental conditions, was occasioned by a weilburgitic (spilitic) rock deposit in eastern Sauerland. The bifurcation is manifested by shallow intrusive injections in keratophyric tuff as opposed to localized pillow accumulation overlying the same tuff. The mineralogical and chemical characteristics of both varieties (three injecta and the averaged material of a pillow were analysed) are discussed and the existing differences pointed out.

The pillows evidently underwent a notable change of composition after the emplacement. Without a detailed mineralogical examination, pillow analyses are suggested to be a vague basis for discussing the genesis of spilitic rocks.
