Spilites and Spilitic Rocks

Part of the book series: International Union of Geological Sciences ((2817,volume 4))

Abstract

The author elaborates upon the article by AMSTUTZ (Geologische Rundschau, 1968) devoted to the elucidation of the problem of spilites. First, he presents a brief characterization of two spilite-bearing formations in Bohemia, namely, the Upper Proterozoic (the Barrandian and the Selezné hory areas) and the Lower Paleozoic (the Barrandian area). He gives special attention to the relationship between the spilite and basaltoid (diabase) types of these eruptive rocks. Secondly, the author takes a stand on the individual unclear, disputable points of the spilite problem.
