Abstract
Gain switching techniques have been previously used to generate short pulses on the nanosecond time scale. In order to extend gain switching to the picosecond domain, one needs picosecond pumping pulses and an ultrashort cavity. Our laser structure, shown in Figure 1, consists of a lµ thick ribbon whisker of GaAs sandwiched between two dielectric mirrors and bonded to them by means of transparent epoxy [1].
