Abstract
Prior to a discussion of the biochemical mechanism of action of pyrimidine analogues it is desirable to outline briefly the normal metabolic reactions of pyrimidines. The various aspects of the biosynthesis and interconversions of pyrimidine nucleotides have been considered by Reichard (1959), Crosbie (1960), Ulbricht (1965), Sugino (1965), Grav (1967), and Larsson and Reichard (1967). The reviews by Stadtman (1966), and Blakley and Vitols (1968) include the regulatory mechanisms involved in the control of pyrimidine metabolism.
