Abstract
In 1985 a survey of all patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) in Norway was performed. This survey was updated and supplemented in 1990. To our knowledge, this is the first national epidemiological study of PWS. Norway has 4.2 million inhabitants and is surrounded by the ocean on three sides. The country has common borders with Russia, Finland and Sweden. The population is stable and in our opinion ideal for epidemiological studies of this kind. The study also compares socioeconomic and living conditions with other well known handicaps such as Down Syndrome, but this part is not yet completed and will be presented at a later date.
