Abstract
Western society has been increasingly putting its way of life, recreational pursuits, economic systems, and national defense into the hands of complex information systems. These systems, composed of micro, mini, and mainframe computers, make use of thousands or millions of lines of computer code. Their use requires complex operating instructions or even advanced technical training. Basically, these systems include hardware, software, and human factors elements.
