Abstract
The influence of biotic factors on habitat selection was dealt with in detail in Chapter 3 and found to be indecisive. We shall therefore now consider the part played by abiotic factors, the influence of which has already been illustrated by numerous examples. Which factors are decisive, and in what manner can they combine to influence choice of habitat? Let us take some of the species of the genus Abax as examples (the following is in part translated from Thiele, 1968 b, 1974).
