Non-Hodgkin’s Hematosarcoma (“Lymphomas”): Classification of the W. H. O. Reference Center for Neoplastic Disease of Hemopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues

  • Chapter
Lymphocytes, Macrophages, and Cancer

Abstract

Non-Hodgkin’s hematosarcomas are tumors of the lymphoid cells (lymphosarcomas) or the “reticuloendothelial system” cells (reticulosarcomas) which, contrary to leukemias, are initially localized or circumscribed. This characteristic, although important, does not separate hemato-sarcomas sharply from leukemias, as hematosarcomas may secondarily present a systemic dissemination and the lymphosarcomas may convert into lymphoid leukemias.
