Abstract
Nutrition support has become a standard of care in the management of intensive care unit (ICU) patients with the Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) with or without sepsis. Much of critical care therapy has been delivered on a physician preference basis. Worldwide, there is a major effort to shift to evidence-based medical decision-making. This effort requires the evaluation of medical literature that is based on objective methodologies for evaluating the quality of the data as well as the strength of the data in promoting evidence-based medical decision-making. This technology is available today.
